Mr. Mack Irwin Rogers, age 84, of Sandersville, died Monday, July 20, 2020.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 23rd at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Brownwood Cemetery with military honors.   Reverend Calvin Hatcher and Mr. Russell Brown will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Mike Rogers, Mack Rogers, Shane Lord, Kevin Rachels, Evan Rachels and Will Landrum.

Mr. Rogers was born and reared in Sandersville.  He graduated from Sandersville High School where he excelled in football.  Mack was offered and accepted a scholarship to play football for the University of Georgia prior to entering the United State Marine Corps.  His military career lasted 25 years, serving three missions to Viet Nam prior to retiring with the rank of Captain in 1978.  Mr. Rogers returned to Sandersville and began a second career in law enforcement where he soon assumed the rank of Chief Deputy for the Washington County Sheriff’s office from which he retired in 1999.  He was a member of Balerma Baptist Church, formerly taught Sunday school at Sisters Baptist Church and later in life became a lay speaker for several congregations. During his life he was honored as the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, as well as Law Enforcement Officer of the year.    He is predeceased by his parents Irwin Rogers, George Irwin and Mary Wynn Tompkins Rogers Irwin.

Survivors are his loving wife Kathy B. Rogers; children, George Rogers and his wife Teresa and Virginia Rogers Lord and her husband Shane all of Sandersville, and Steve Swint Jr. and his wife Natalie of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Mike Rogers and his wife Bekki, Mack Rogers, Anna Grace Lord, William Lord, Dominic Swint and Samantha Swint; and great grandchildren, Coraline Rogers, Everlee Rogers and Thalia Rogers.

The family will be at their residence on North Harris Street in Sandersville.
