Mr. David Robert Usry, age 63, of Sandersville, died Thursday, July 30, 2020 at University Hospital.  A funeral service celebrating David’s life will be held on Saturday, August 1st at 10:00 a.m. at the Washington County High School football stadium following social distancing practices.  Reverend Gregg Usry and Reverend Dewey Henderson will officiate.

David was born in Louisville and reared in both Hinesville and Claxton where he graduated high school. He began his working career in radio, working for Tommy Palmer where he developed a lifelong love of sports.  Soon David began working in the food service industry for Wendy’s and then Pizza Inn where he was a franchisee operator prior to becoming a corporate auditor. He was the former owner and operator of WACO Chemical Supply before beginning work with Jet Food Stores Inc. in 1993 where he was currently employed as a company vice president.  David possessed a great love for his community’s youth and served as a mentor to many. He was the longtime Washington County Golden Hawks Football team chaplain and instituted the team’s Thursday night devotional times.  He was an active member of White Oak Church where he loved to sing and where he was instrumental in the churches annual wild game supper. David was a former University of Georgia Fellowship of Christian Athletes board member.  He was actively involved and supported numerous organizations including First Love Kids, the Freedom Fighters, Promises of Hope and Beginnings in Christ to name a few. David is predeceased by his parents, Darrell Lee Usry Sr. and Lucille Henderson Usry Fordham, stepfather, Bobby Gene Fordham and his brother, Darrell Lee Usry Jr.

Survivors include, his wife Carrie Brown Usry of Sandersville; sons, Nelson Gabriel Usry and his wife Kadi of Balldwin MO., David Robert “Dustan” Usry and his wife Brook and Joshua Allen Usry all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Spencer David Usry, Leyton Gabriel Usry, Brandon Cade McNure and Journey Brook Lucille “Suga Bush” Usry; siblings, Greggory Keith Usry and his wife Miriam of Claxton and Becky Usry Haller and her husband Bruce of Sandersville; and sister-in-law, Juli Floyd McDaniel of Tennille.
