Tennille Council voted to reactivate the Tennille Downtown Development Authority at their Monday, September 21 City Council meeting.

Tennille City Attorney Michael Howard explained during the City Council meeting that the City has a resolution on the books that allows for a Downtown Development Authority in the City of Tennille.

“That authority already has its own bylaws and legally everything is in place that it needs to operate,” said City Attorney Howard. He added, “The problem we have is that the Downtown Development Authority has been inactive over the last couple of years.”

City Attorney Howard stated that the terms of the Authority members have expired.

City Attorney Howard explained to the Mayor and Council that the first thing needed was for the Council to vote to reactive the Tennille Downtown Development Authority.

“We don’t have to pass any additional resolutions or bylaws – it’s all been done,” said City Attorney Howard.

Mayor Pro-Tem Brainard Crawford moved to proceed with reactivating this authority; Councilperson David Hartley seconded, and the vote carried unanimously.

Following that vote, City Attorney Howard stated that potential members to serve on the Authority were needed for nomination.

Mayor Eartha Cummings provided four nominations to the Tennille City Council; they are as follows:

  • Donald Patterson, a business owner in downtown Tennille
  • Parish Harris, a resident of the City of Tennille
  • Christian Cruz, a business owner in downtown Tennille
  • David Hartley, the City Council representative

After announcing the four nominations, Mayor Pro-Tem Crawford moved to accept the nominations; Councilperson Keith Lindsey seconded, and the vote carried unanimously.

City Attorney Howard stated that three additional nominations are needed for the Downtown Development Authority. Mayor Cummings stated that she plans to present the three nominations at the next City Council meeting scheduled for Monday, October 5.
