Tennille Celebrates Georgia Cities Week with Scrap Tire Removal

Old tires can be breeding grounds for mosquitos; they also can pose environmental problems when chemicals in the tires are released when left to decompose.

The City of Tennille has designated the week of Sunday, October 4- Saturday, October 10 as a citywide scrap tire clean-up event. The scrap tire drive coincides with the Georgia Municipal Association’s Georgia Cities Week. This year’s theme for Georgia Cities Week is “Georgia’s Cities: Building the 2020 Vision.” The theme gives cities the opportunity to share information about the valuable services they provide to residents, including an inside look into city operations and how cities positively impact their quality of life, highlight successful community projects and infrastructure enhancements, connect residents with each other, and build or improve working relationships with state leaders and legislators

“The City would like to invite our citizens to help beautify our city with a scrap tire drive,” explained Tennille Mayor Eartha Cummings. She added, “Cleaning up your scrap tires will not only help the environment, but it will improve the looks of our city!”

This event is available to City of Tennille residents only.

Citizens are encouraged to leave the scrap tires on the curbside, and City employees will be by to collect the tires throughout the week.

This scrap tire drive is made possible through a Local Government Scrap Tire Abatement Reimbursement Agreement between the Georgia Department of Natural Resources – Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and City of Tennille.

Tires will be collected in the City of Tennille from residential homes, not commercial businesses. The tires must be removed from the rims in order for the City to collect them. Only car tires and light duty truck tires will be accepted.

For more information about the scrap tire drive, contact Tennille City Hall during office hours, Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., by calling 478-552-7875.
