Nine historic documents are now on display at the Washington County Courthouse.

“Eight years ago, I was privileged to stand with Governor Nathan Deal as he signed the law permitting this collection of historical documents to be displayed in any public building in Georgia,” said Congressman Jody Hice during the dedication held on Friday, October 23. “It was the culmination of the work I undertook as a private citizen long before I became a Member of Congress, and it gives me great pleasure to participate in the dedication ceremony of this important display in Sandersville.”

As previously reported by WACO 100, earlier this year, Washington County Commissioners heard a presentation from Lynda Brown of Ten Commandments Georgia, Inc.

Brown explained that Ten Commandments Georgia’s mission is to educate people across the state about the founding documents of America’s law and government.

Brown proposed the nine-piece historical display that could be housed at the Washington County Courthouse. The nine documents include:  Ten Commandments, Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, Preamble to the Georgia State Constitution, Star Spangled Banner, Lady Justice, and the National motto, “In God We Trust.”

“I pray that these documents will be a blessing to this County,” said Brown

In February of this year, the Commissioners unanimously agreed to allow the historical documents to be placed in the Washington County Courthouse. Private funding was sought to purchase the Foundations of American Law & Government display.

“I am so glad that we got this done,” said Chairman Horace Daniel during the October 23 dedication. Chairman Daniel went on to thank the churches in Washington County for helping fund this project.

State Representative Mack Jackson remarked that it takes everyone working together to make the country great.

“Spread the love, and spread the message that we go by the Commandments of God; we’re not ashamed of the Gospel,” said State Representative Jackson.
