
Mr. David Samuel Phillips Sr., age 73, of Sunhill-Grange Rd., Sandersville, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at his residence. A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, November 30th at 2:00 P.M. at the Union Baptist Church Cemetery North of Warthen. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate.
Mr. Phillips was a Washington County native, the son of the late Ralph Freeman Phillips and the late Louise Brantley Phillips. At an early age, David joined the US Army and served in Vietnam where he was a purple heart recipient. He first began work with Washington Manufacturing prior to working for Kentucky Tennessee as a diesel mechanic from which he retired. Some of David’s favorite hobbies included becoming a lottery pro by playing the Georgia Lottery and watching the show “How is it Made.” He was always full of jokes and laughter but above all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, David is predeceased by siblings, Nellie Osborne and Johnny Phillips.
Survivors are his children, Eva Duncan and her husband Lee of Sandersville, Darlene Martin and her husband Ellis Sr. of Wrightsville, Delma Ray Smith and his wife Michelle of Franklinton LA., David Phillips Jr. and his wife Melanie of Washington PA., and Chris Phillips and his wife Gabby of Sandersville; grandchildren, Michael Corbin, Gabby “Bussell”, Tyler Phillips, Megan Phillips, Ellis Martin Jr., Elijah Phillips, Ethan Martin, Logan Phillips, and Samuel Phillips; great grandson, Zylan Corbin; and siblings, Robert Glenn Phillips and his wife Diane of Tennille, Wyman Phillips of Harlem, Bobby Phillips and his wife Geneva of Fairhope, AL. and Daryl Phillips and his wife Polly of Deepstep.
The family will be at the Phillips residence following the graveside service on Monday. The public may pay their respects on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. at May and Smith Funeral Directors.
