
Mrs. Vertis Archer Austin passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021. Graveside funeral services were held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Middle Hill Baptist Church in Warthen with Pastor Mack Jackson officiating.
She was born in Sandersville, Georgia on May 17, 1944 to the parentage of the late Mr. Jacob Archer, Sr. and the late Mrs. Myrtle Lou Archer. Mrs. Austin graduated from T.J. Elder High School in 1962 and moved to New Jersey where she attended college. After graduating college with a degree in Business, she married her late husband Reverend Carl C. Austin on February 21, 1965. Vertis and Carl moved to Washington D.C. where she worked as a secretary at the Pentagon. They loved to travel before deciding to settle down and retire in her hometown of Sandersville with their children. After the death of her beloved husband, she became even more dedicated to being the most loving mother she could be to her four children. Mrs. Austin worked at Walmart for many years before retiring. She was a loving, compassionate, and kind-hearted person. Vertis loved her family and friends. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Carl C. Austin and three siblings, Mrs. Mamie Archer Cato, Mrs. Ella Ree Archer Holmes, and Mr. Jacob Archer, Jr.
Mrs. Austin leaves to cherish her memories, four children, Mr. Karl (Christina) Austin, Dublin, Mrs. Angela (Jake) Gilbert, Mrs. Carla (Kenny) Ellington, and Mr. Duane (Shameka) Austin, Sandersville; two sisters, Ms. Eloise Archer, Macon and Mrs. Evelyn (Eddie) Yorker, Daytona Beach, Florida; three brothers, Mr. Frank (Rose) Archer, Macon, Mr. Euriel Archer, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Mr. James (Annie) Archer, New Haven, Connecticut; sixteen grandchildren, Ms. Katina White, Ms. Lakendra Gilbert, Ms. Porsha Austin, Mrs. Karlicia (Napolean) Jenkins, Ms. Tyhari Sanders, Mrs. India (Demarcus) Holsey, Ms. Malaysia Sanders, Ms. Tiara Austin, Ms. Karnaya Austin, Ms. Eriyona Hill, Ms. Keibriyonna Austin, Mr. Duane Austin, Jr., Mr. Duquan Austin, Ms. Shalexia Brown, Mr. Jahkei Ellington, and Mr. Keiyon Ellington; devoted niece, Ms. Janice Gaston; devoted cousin, Ms. Helen Barlow; devoted friend and companion, Mr. Herbert Taylor; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
