Sandersville Mayor and City Council encouraged City of Sandersville voters to take part in the March 16 Special Election during their most recent City Council meeting held on Monday, March 1.
The Special Election in the City of Sandersville will determine whether or not to allow package sales of malt beverages, wine, and distilled spirits by retailers on Sundays.
“These convenience stores are at a big disadvantage in the City because everybody outside the City is able to have Sunday sales – the convenience stores in the City are unable to,” said Sandersville Mayor Pro-Tem Jeffery Smith, explaining that a county-wide referendum was passed last year by voters for the unincorporated areas of the County; however, that referendum did not specifically include the City of Sandersville, therefore a special election was needed concerning this issue in the City of Sandersville.
As previously reported by WACO 100, Sandersville City Council adopted a resolution calling for the special election at their Tuesday, January 19 Council meeting.
“If you don’t like it, or if you do like it, you really should take the time to go vote,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Smith.
The March 16 Special Election ballot includes the following question:
Shall the governing authority of the City of Sandersville be authorized to permit and regulate package sales by retailers of malt beverages, wine, and distilled spirits on Sundays between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.? Yes/No?
Advance/Early voting for this Special Election began Monday, February 22, and continues through Friday, March 12. Early voting takes place Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the office located in the rear of the Tag Office at 117 Jones Street in Sandersville. Only residents of the City of Sandersville will vote in this special election.
Polls will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, March 16, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
