Washington County Commissioners will hear a proposal from Janie Reid and Kevin Lawrence concerning tiny housing for veterans at their Thursday, June 10 meeting.

During the Tuesday, June 8 workshop, County Administrator Dustin Peebles stated that he’s corresponded with the two individuals, and the proposed location for the tiny houses is on Hwy. 24 East before McCoy Pond Road.

“There’s roughly six acres where they’re looking at putting these tiny houses,” said County Administrator Peebles.

According to Peebles, the individuals want to discuss their proposal with the Commissioners.

In other news, Washington County Commissioners will award bids for renovations to the new Elections building. County Administrator Peebles reported that five bids were received for this project – the bids range from $257,545 to $382,196.

Commissioners will also vote on an appointment to the Washington County Hospital Authority. Chairman of the Hospital Authority Jim Croome requested that Commissioners appoint Patty Garner to the Authority. County Administrator Peebles noted that Garner has worked in the medical field, and once served as Administrator of the Extended Care Facility at Washington County Regional Medical Center.

In addition, the Commissioners will vote on recommendations for the Sandersville School Building Authority. Four individuals currently serving on the Authority have terms expiring at the end of June; those Authority members include: Susan Lewis, Randy Mayberry, Shaun Veal, and Gene Renfroe.

“With the way the rules are written, we have to give three names for each position, so we needed two more recommendations,” said Administrator Peebles.

The six recommendations from the County for consideration include: Susan Lewis, Randy Mayberry, Shaun Veal, Gene Renfroe, Bobby Jackson, and Scott Ferguson. Commissioners will vote on this list at their meeting on Thursday; once approved by the County, the Sandersville School Building Authority will vote on their four appointments from that list.

The Commissioners will also consider the fiscal year 2021 budget amendment, as well as the fiscal year 2022 budget at their meeting on Thursday.

The Washington County Commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 10 at 9 a.m.
