Mrs. Margaret Carr McCarty, age 74, of Sandersville, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021, while surrounded by her family at her home. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, July 28 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sandersville United Methodist Church. Reverend Dr. Stan Littleton will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the Heritage Hall of the church.

Margaret was a born and reared in Sandersville, the daughter of the late Thomas Caswell Carr and the late Margaret Jordan Carr. At an early age, Margaret found a love for horses, and as a child, could be seen riding her horse in the annual Kaolin Festival parade. She was a graduate of the Washington County High School and Georgia College & State University. Margaret spent her entire working career in her family’s health care business, Frederica Acres, where she served as President until her passing. Margaret was a lifelong and active member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church and served in many leadership roles, including, chairing the Parsonage Committee. Margaret’s favorite retreat was spending time on St. Simons Island and Lake Oconee while traveling with her husband and cherished friends. She adored her beloved dog, Cato. Her memory will last in the hearts of many.

Survivors include her husband, John M. McCarty; daughter, Margaret “Meg” M. Smith and her husband Eric of Tennille; granddaughters, Margaret “Maggie” Levie and Virginia Beth Smith; sister, Kathy Carr Jopling and her husband Bill of Thomson; sister-in-law, Ginny M. Berry and her husband Lester of McCormick, South Carolina; nephews, David Jopling and his wife Stacie, Miller Jopling, Charles Shivers and his wife Krista, and John Shivers and his wife Brandi; and special friends, Vernice Lane and Bessie Jordan.
