THOMAS WATSON “T.W.” HARRIS, SR.

Mr. Thomas Watson “T.W.” Harris, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 in Savannah, Georgia. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Birth Christian Ministries in Tennille with Senior Pastor Patrick Wilson, Sr., officiating. Interment was held in Powell Grove Cemetery in Devereux.

Mr. Thomas Watson Harris, Sr., affectionately known as “T.W.” by his family and friends, was born on February 18, 1945 in Sandersville to the parentage of the late Mr. Bobbie Lee Harris, Sr. and the late Mrs. Buerena Simmons Harris. He confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at the Powell Grove Baptist Church in Devereux. After relocating to Savannah, T.W. joined the Temple of Glory Community Church. He also attended the Macedonia Church of Savannah. Thomas Sr. was a proud graduate of the T. J. Elder High School, Class of 1963. Following graduating, he entered into the United States Air Force, serving from 1963 to 1969. After his military service with an honorable discharge, he graduated with honors from the Savannah State College in 1973. T.W. was a member of the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society. From 1973 to 1975, he was an instructor in the Accounting Department at Draughon Business College (now South University.) Afterwards, T.W. began a career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he retired following thirty-eight years of service. During his employment, he received many achievement awards, including honorable service awards for his work during the Vietnam War, Commander’s Awards, and many training certificates. Thomas was also employed with Adams Funeral Home in Savannah for a period of time. On September 27, 2003, he married Ms. Lou V. Roberson.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Nolene Harris Duggan; and grandparents, Mr. Nolan and Mrs. Lucinda Harris and Mr. Frank and Mrs. Ida B. Simmons.

Roberson-Harris; children, Mr. Michael Van Harris, Mr. Thomas (Shanell) Harris, II, Ms. April Harris, Ms. Karen Bogans, and Mr. Brian Roberson; sisters, Mrs. Katie Smith Poole, Mrs. Jacqueline (Rev. Robert) Mitchell, and Ms. Barbara Harris; brothers, Mr. B. L. Harris (Annie) Harris, Jr. Mr. Johnny (Virginia) Houston, Mr. Joe (Catherine) Houston, and Mr. James Crowder; grandchildren: Mrs. Alicea (Dontre’) Douse, Mrs. Dayshia (Kendall) Johnson, Ms. Shydai A. Harris, Mr. Micah K. Harris, Ms. Baleigh V. Harris, Mr. William Bogans, III, Mr. Jordan Bogans, and Ms. Hannah Bogans; great-granddaughter, Miss Kailey M. Johnson; devoted friends, Mr. Welton Smith, Mr. Charles Tanksley, Mr. Sylvester Brown, and Mr. Ronnie Middleton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
