LEMMIE FELTON REEVES BAILEY

Mrs. Lemmie Felton Reeves-Bailey passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Tennille Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Walden officiating.

Mrs. Lemmie Felton Reeves-Bailey was born on December 23, 1926 to the parentage of the late Mr. Richmond Felton and the late Mrs. Lemmie Felton in Marshallville, Georgia. She attended the Lamson Richardson High School and continued her education at the Albany State College, where she was an outstanding basketball player and voted “Most Beautiful Senior.” While at Albany State College, she was given the nickname, “Dimples” due to her smile. Following completion of her Early Childhood Education Degree, Lemmie began her teaching career in Sandersville in 1948. She served the Washington County Public Schools System for forty-two (42) years with love and a passion for teaching. While teaching in Sandersville, she met and married the late Mr. Donald R. Reeves, Sr. Together they raised two sons, Mr. Donald R. Reeves, Jr. and Mr. William H. Reeves, and one daughter, Dr. Meribah (Ricky) White. Baptized at an early age, Lemmie was an active member of her churches, serving in the choir and on many various church committees. She was an active member of Springfield Baptist Church for over sixty (60) years and a faithful member of the Tennille Grove Baptist Church. Later in life, Lemmie married the late Mr. Otis Bailey. Continuing her service in Sandersville, she served on numerous clubs and organizations, including lifelong memberships with the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, the NAACP, and the National Association of Retired Educators.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Mr. Donald R. Reeves, Sr. and Mr. Otis H. Bailey; four brothers, Mr. Lunas Felton, Mr. Edward Felton, Mr. Harvey Felton, and Mr. Ambrose Felton; and four sisters, Ms. Minnie Bottom, Ms. Carrie Louise Satterwhite, Ms. Bernice Rainbow and Ms. Dorothy Griffin.

Mrs. Bailey leaves to cherish her memories; two sons, Mr. Donald R. Reeves, Jr., Marietta and Mr. William H. Reeves, Austin, Texas; one daughter, Dr. Meribah (Ricky) White, East Point; four grandchildren, Mr. Torrey Moore, Mrs. Ansley (Richard) White, Dr. Frances Lemmeca (Dayon) Mack, and Mr. Ricky William-Harvey White; five great-grandchildren, Lauryn Mack, Bailey Mack, David Mack, Brea White, and Rodney White; sister-in-law, Dr. Ann Gayles Felton; devoted cousin, Mrs. Eva Kendricks; caregiver, Mrs. Auri Wimbley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; and her special companion, Jack Russell Terrier, “Sweetie.”
