Washington County Commissioners approved a beer and wine application at their Thursday, August 12 meeting.

County Administrator Dustin Peebles first discussed the application during the July Board of Commissioners’ meeting. Notice of the application was publicized in the County’s legal organ prior to the Commissioners voting on the application.

Applying for the beer and wine license is Stephanie Roberson; the business, Spin the Block Package Shop, will be located at Star Road in Harrison

During the August 12 meeting, County Administrator Peebles explained that the County received no complaints regarding this application, and that the individual applying for the license met all the requirements and cleared the investigation.

Commissioner Frank Simmons moved to approve the application; Commissioner Edward Burten seconded, and the vote carried unanimously.

In addition to the beer and wine application, Commissioners also approved a contract with Civic Plus regarding a redesign of the County’s website. County Administrator Peebles stated that the current website does not meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, and updates were needed. Two proposals were reviewed by the County employees and the County Commissioners. After discussing the features of each proposal, the Commissioners voted to proceed with Civic Plus.

“This update is long overdue,” said County Administrator Peebles. He added, “This will help us meet federal requirements, provide more features, and offer a higher level of security.”

When discussing the website, County Administrator Peebles stated that American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds will be used to cover the cost of the upgrade.

“This won’t come out of our annual budget,” said Peebles.

Commissioners also voted to purchase five patrol vehicles for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicles include four pickup trucks and one Chevrolet Tahoe. It was noted that American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds will also be used to purchase these vehicles.
