Tennille City Council adopted a resolution at their Monday, September 20 meeting to declare Sunday, October 3 – Saturday, October 9 as Georgia Cities Week in the City of Tennille.
“Georgia Cities Week is a very important time to recognize the important roles played by the City Government in our lives,” said Mayor Eartha Cummings when discussing the resolution at the City Council meeting.
According to the Georgia Municipal Association, this year’s theme is “Georgia’s Cities: Shaping the Future,” giving cities the opportunity to:
– Share information about the valuable services cities provide to residents, including an inside look into city operations and how cities positively impact their quality of life
– Highlight successful community projects and infrastructure enhancements
– Connect residents with one another
– Build or improve working relationships with state leaders and legislators
Georgia Cities Week is also an opportunity to celebrate community achievements and recognize volunteers and city employees. Last year, more than 120 cities participated.
“Georgia Cities Week offers an important opportunity to convey to all the citizens of Georgia, that they can shape and influence government through their civic involvement,” said Tennille Mayor Cummings.
The resolution adopted by the Tennille City Council notes that City Government is administered for and by its citizens. It is dependent upon public commitment to and understanding of its many responsibilities.
Tennille Mayor Cummings explained during the Monday, September 20 City Council meeting that the City of Tennille will hold their annual Trash Amnesty efforts during Georgia Cities Week. More information concerning the trash amnesty efforts will be available closer to the event.
