More than fifty cyclists from Georgia, Florida, Virginia, Texas, California, Indiana, and New Jersey will be riding 285 miles from Athens to Savannah through local communities from Friday, October 22 to Saturday, October 23.
The Athens to Savannah Bike Ride, presented by Jet Food Stores, begins on Friday morning with a Stage Sendoff by the Hub Bicycles in Athens at the Jittery Joe’s Roaster. Cyclists will head 107 miles through Winterville, Union Point, and Siloam on their way to Sparta, Linton, and Sandersville to end Day 1 in Tennille.
The group will stay overnight in Sandersville and restart their ride on Saturday, October 23 from the Washington County Chamber of Commerce in Sandersville at 8:00 A.M. with a Stage Sendoff by Astra Group. After leaving Sandersville, they will travel through Tennille, Harrison, Wrightsville, and Bartow on their way to Twin City, the George L. Smith State Park, and Statesboro.
On Day 3, riders will depart Statesboro with a Stage Sendoff by Bicycle Attorney Joe Steffen and travel 77 miles through Brooklet, Guyton, and Bloomingdale on their way to the final destination of the event in Savannah. The bicycle ride ends at Service Brewing in historic Downtown Savannah on the afternoon of Sunday, October 24.
Mary Charles Howard, a Sandersville native and Executive Director of the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail, would like to thank all of the local individuals making the ride possible this year. She also requests motorists in Hancock, Washington, Johnson, and Jefferson Counties be aware of riders in their area this weekend.
“Please look out for cyclists on the road this Friday and Saturday. Slow down and give cyclists distance when passing. This is one of the many ways we can show the Athens to Savannah cyclists our hometown hospitality,” said Event Organizer of the Athens to Savannah Ride Howard.

The Georgia Hi-Lo Trail is dedicated to building a 211 mile paved trail that will serve to drive economic development through the connectivity and empowerment of rural Georgia. Upon completion of the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail from Union Point to Savannah, it will connect to the 39-mile Firefly Trail from Union Point to Athens and together form the longest paved trail in America, connecting small Georgia towns, from Athens to Savannah, through the paved, road separated path and creating opportunities for growth and economic development.
