CHARLES “CHARLIE” WILSON NORRIS, JR.

Mr. Charles Wilson Norris, Jr., age 74, of Sandersville passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022, following an extended illness. A graveside funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. in the Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reverend Ron Dixon and Reverend Devita B. Parnell will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 1, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home.

Charlie, as he was affectionately known, was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Charles W. Norris, Sr. and the late Dorothy Woodard Norris. He formerly worked as a Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer, having managed DOT responsibilities in a 28-County area of East Central Georgia that involves 2000 miles of roadways. Mr. Norris was a past State President of the Georgia DOT Engineers Association. Charlie was a past member of the College Park Jaycees, the Washington County Jaycees, the Tennille Rotary Club, and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. He was a 1965 graduate of Washington County High School and received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering Technology degree from Southern Tech in 1973. Mr. Norris was a former member of Mobile Construction Battalion 128 in the United States Navy Seabees. As an avid University of Georgia football fan, Charlie enjoyed all aspects of watching the games, following high school recruiting, and collecting Bulldog memorabilia.

Mr. Norris is survived by his wife of 50 years, Connie; his children who gave him much pride, Laura Ashley Bridges and her husband Jeff and Jeff Norris and his wife Lauren, all of Roswell; his grandchildren who he adored, Charlie, Ellen, Mac, and Nealy’ and his brother, Wayne Norris and his wife Joy of Sandersville.
