
Mr. Ernest Lee “Hawkeye” Wimbley, Jr. was called from labor to his eternal reward on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. in the Rest Haven Memorial Garden. Reverend Jackie Crockett will officiate.
Mr. Wimbley was born on November 27, 1966, in Augusta, the oldest child of the late Ernest L. Wimbley, Sr. and Mrs. Mattlyn R. Wimbley. Earnest joined the Friendship Baptist Church in Milledgeville at an early age. He graduated from the Washington County High School in 1984 and immediately joined the United States Army. Mr. Wimbley was a longtime employee of Howard Sheppard Trucking. Ernest was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Lakeith Wimbley.
His memories will forever be cherished by his mother, Mattlyn Wimbley of Tennille; son, Quantavious (Kodi) Wimbley of Tennille; sister, Faye Dixon of Sandersville; brother, Steve (Cynthia) Williams of Milledgeville; grandmother, Elouise Burney of Tennille; three grandchildren; devoted niece, Kierra Butts; aunts, Louise (Matthew) Roberson, Mary Renfroe, Janice Anderson, Peggy Purdy, Mamie Lou (Harold) Hicks, Mammie Lee Scott, and Mary (Rick) Wiley; uncles, Roger Wimbley, Sr., Willie Wimbley, and Michael Renfroe; devoted cousin, Regina Davis; special friend, Harry Glover of Jacksonville, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4, 2022, in the L.M. Pierce Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Centers for Disease Control guidelines for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19, including the wearing of face masks and the practicing of social distancing will be required.
