Election Qualifying Underway in Washington County

Qualifying for the Tuesday, May 24 General Primary Election is currently underway for the Washington County Board of Commissioners and the Washington County Board of Education. Qualifying is also taking place for a Special Election to fill the vacant District Four Sandersville City Council seat.

Qualifying officially opened on Monday, March 7 at 9 a.m. and will close at noon on Friday, March 11.

All qualifying will take place during office hours at the Washington County Courthouse in the Board of Elections and Registration Office located at 132 W. Haynes Street, Room 108 in Sandersville.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners is comprised of five elected officials, including a chairperson and a representative from each of the four districts.

The Washington County Board of Education is structured similarly to the Washington County Commissioners with a chairperson and one elected official from each of the four districts.

The Special Election for the City of Sandersville concerns only one vacant City Council seat in District Four. This City Council seat became vacant with the November 2021 resignation of Jason Davis, who moved outside the city limits. The individual elected to this seat will serve the unexpired term.

The deadline for voter registration/change of address for the Tuesday, May 24 election is Monday, April 25.

Early voting for the Tuesday, May 24 election will take place from Monday, May 2 through Friday, May 20.

The mandatory Saturday voting will take place on May 7 and May 14.

Polls will be open for the Tuesday, May 24 election from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
