
Mrs. Rachel Tanner Josey, age 81, of Highway 242 in Sandersville passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at her residence. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 14 at 11:00 A.M. in the Davisboro Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Brownwood Cemetery of Sandersville. Reverend Larry Glover will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 13 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
Mrs. Josey was the daughter of the late Melvin L. Tanner and the late Thelma T. Tanner. She was the wife of the late Verlon E. Josey. Rachel spent a majority of her working career as a Secretary for Franklin Propane from 1977 until her retirement in 2010. Mrs. Josey enjoyed watching her “soaps,” especially “The Young and the Restless,” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” She also found pleasure in crocheting and listening to music on “Willie’s Roadhouse.” In addition to her parents and husband, Rachel is preceded in death by her daughter, Melvie Lorraine Josey; sisters-in-law, Sarah Hicks and Winnie McLvried; and brother-in-law, Hugh Josey.
Mrs. Josey is survived by her daughter, Teresa Melvina Josey Titsworth (Bob) of North Augusta, South Carolina; son, Lewis V. Josey (Jennifer) of Sandersville; sister, Catherine T. Hiller (Ray) of Martinez; special caregiving family member, Lynn Goldman; grandchildren, Brandon Josey, Hunter Goodson, Evan Josey, Rachel Ann Josey, and Connor May; several great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Rachel Meadows of Augusta.
