Mr. James Lamar Henson, age 80, of Sandersville passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. A funeral service to celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, July 14th at 11:00 A.M. in the Sisters Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. Reverend Jason Loggins, Reverend Robbie Duncan, and Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be the active and former Deacons of Sisters Baptist Church. The New Beginnings Sunday School Class and local Gideons will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Mr. Henson was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Julius Andrew Henson and the late Mamie Kate Todd Henson. He was a graduate of the Washington County High School and Georgia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in Education. Lamar was an excellent baseball player at the high school, collegiate, and semiprofessional levels. Mr. Henson was employed as a Biology Teacher and Baseball Coach in Washington County and Baldwin County. He also worked with the Sandersville Youth Development Center. Alongside his brother, Lamar opened Henson’s Bait and Tackle on East McCarty Street in Sandersville, which he operated until his retirement. Mr. Henson was a faithful lifetime member of the Sisters Baptist Church, serving in numerous leadership roles, as a Deacon, and as a Sunday School Teacher. He was admired as a devoted soldier for the Lord through his ministering with Gideons International to correctional institutions and nursing homes. Lamar was an avid Georgia Bulldogs football and Atlanta Braves baseball fan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Henson and Larry Henson.

Mr. Henson is survived by many devoted cousins and faithful friends.
