Mrs. Margie Hillman Fessler, age 97, of Tennille passed away on Monday, August 1st, 2022. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, August 6th at 11:00 A.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reverend Paul Fessler and Reverend Andy Yates will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Fessler’s grandsons and grandsons-in-law. The Washington County Regional Medical Center Extended Care Facility Volunteers and the Deacons of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 5th from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home of Sandersville.

Mrs. Fessler was born and reared in Covington, Kentucky, the oldest of four siblings to the late Stanley Levie Hillman, Sr. and the late Margaret Cox Hillman, with a passion for acting and dancing. Following high school graduation, she spent much time singing and dancing in the “Big Band Clubs” of Cincinnati, Ohio. Margie met the love of her life, Marvin George Fessler, at church and they soon-after married and began raising a family in Florida before relocating to Atlanta for Marvin to enter the seminary. Mrs. Fessler served with Marvin in Marietta, Eden, North Carolina, Danville, Virginia, and lastly at the Tennille Christian Church in Tennille. She would often share her lifelong love of music by instructing piano lessons for children. Margie was a longtime volunteer at the Washington County Regional Medical Center Extended Care Facility, accumulating over eleven-thousand hours of service. Mrs. Fessler was an active member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Margie is preceded in death by her son, Mark Fessler; and brother, Stanley Hillman.

Survivors include her son, Paul Fessler and wife Deborah of Villa Rica; daughter-in-law, Ann Fessler of Greensboro; grandchildren, Cheryl Portwood and husband Darrell, Jeff Fessler and wife Jennifer, Karen Minton and husband Chris, Michael Fessler and wife Whitney, Daniel Fessler and wife Tammy, Susan Wood and husband Tommy, Joy Harden and husband Joe, and Andrew Fessler and wife Marie; twenty grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and siblings, Mattie Lue Dumas of Florida and Bob Hillman and wife Sis of North Carolina.
