Mr. Hugh F. Chapman, Jr., age 89, of Heards Bridge Road in Davisboro passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Augusta University Medical Center. A graveside funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, January 10th at 2:00 P.M. in the Riddleville City Cemetery. Mr. Mike Ford will officiate. Pallbearers will be Daniel Anderson, Carl Chapman, Stone Chapman, Austin Garrett, Justin Garrett, and Will Oliver. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jonathon Ford, Zac Ford, and Edward Sheppard.

Mr. Chapman was born in Sandersville, the son of the late Hugh F. Chapman, Sr. and the late Myrtle Hattaway Chapman. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Hugh spent his working career as a State of Georgia Revenue Agent. Mr. Chapman spent retirement working on his farm. He was regarded as a loving and involved father and grandfather, investing time and effort into the lives of his children and grandchildren. Hugh enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing, working with them on the farm, and educating them in the “Hugh Chapman School of Driving,” which each graduated by the age of ten. Mr. Chapman was a devoted and caring husband to his wife of nearly 62 years, Jean Chapman, serving as caregiver prior to her passing. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Chapman Fuqua.

Mr. Chapman is survived by his children, Freddie Chapman of Davisboro, Melanie Ford and husband Mike of Richmond, Virginia, Tim Chapman and wife Amy of Louisville, Kim Anderson of Riddleville, and Susan Garrett and husband Scotty of Riddleville; grandchildren, Kimberly Bauer and husband Mark, Zac Ford, Carl Chapman and wife Melissa, Emily Chapman, Stone Chapman, Daniel Anderson and wife Meredith, Sydney Oliver and husband Will, Justin Garrett and wife Courtney, and Austin Garrett; step-grandchildren, Justin Fletcher, Jackson Fletcher, Samantha Jones; great-grandchildren, Henlee Chapman, Tripp Chapman, River Oliver, and Bailee Brooke Anderson; and soon-to-be-born great-grandchildren, Rylan Oliver and Summer Bauer.
