Virginia Etheridge Davis, age 92, of Tennille passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, to be with her Savior and leave a legacy of love and family devotion. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, January 30th at 2:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel of Sandersville. A visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Davis was born in Auburn, Georgia, on August 16, 1930, to the late Minor Jackson Etheridge, Sr. and the late Cleo Maude Jenkins Etheridge, the youngest of seven children. Virginia was reared in Tennille where she graduated high school while excelling in academics and basketball. In 1948, she married Edwin L. Davis, Jr., and together they raised four children. Mrs. Davis was a lifelong and devoted member of Tennille Baptist Church. Virginia was a longtime employee of the Washington County Public School District, serving as Bookkeeper for the Oconee RESA. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, square dancing, playing sports and games, and traveling. Mrs. Davis will be fondly remembered for her devotion to her close-knit family and loyal friends. In addition to husband of fifty-six years, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Mae Moody, Odis Etheridge, Eunious Etheridge, M.J. Etheridge, Jr., Roy Etheridge, and Lloyd Etheridge; and granddaughter, Audrey Cook Calabro.
Survivors include her children, Sue Armstrong and husband David, JoAnn Cook and husband Harry, Sandy Sumner and husband Danny, and Billy Davis; grandchildren, Devlin Bragg and wife Jennifer, Anthony Bragg, Dayton Cook, Laura Poarch and husband Derek, and Lindsey Bauer and husband Nick; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Poarch, David Poarch, Abigail Bauer, and Travis Bench and wife Molly; great-great-grandchild, Kash Bench; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family; and devoted caregivers, Sherry Haynes and Susan Dickerson.
