Sandersville Police Department is reminding motorists not to risk it during this holiday season by always remembering to click their seat belt before every trip and to make sure all children are also safely restrained.

The annual SPD “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement and awareness campaign will take place during the extended Thanksgiving holiday weekend from Wednesday, November 22 through Sunday, November 26.

Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel periods of the year with millions of vehicles traveling on Georgia highways and roads throughout the week and it is important for drivers and passengers to put safety first by always buckling up.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts have saved more than 100,000 lives in the last decade.

During the 2022 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, 15 fatal traffic crashes that caused 18 deaths were investigated by the Georgia State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies across Georgia.

In addition to fatal crashes, troopers investigated approximately 590 traffic crashes statewide that resulted in nearly 300 injuries. Officers made over 15,600 traffic stops, arrested more than 300 individuals for driving under the influence, and issued over 8,600 citations.

“Everyone is looking forward to spending time with family and friends during the holidays so we want everyone to safely make it to wherever they are traveling,” said Sandersville Police Department Captain Kelly Collins. “Choosing to wear a seat belt could one day save your life, which is why buckling up should be the first thing we all do when we get into a vehicle.”
