Mrs. Polly Holton Tompkins, age 100, of Lee Street in Sandersville passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2023, at her residence.  A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, January 10 at 11:00 A.M. in the Sandersville United Methodist Church. Reverend Dr. Stan Littleton will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Burch, Bobby Grant, Ken Grant, Billy Holton, Jr., Bob Holton, Jr., Glenn McGahee, John McGahee, and Trey Kinard. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service in the Church Heritage Hall. Private interment will be held in the Brownwood Cemetery of Sandersville.

Mrs. Tompkins was born on August 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry Grady Holton and the late Mattie Usry Holton. She was a graduate of the Sandersville High School and Perry School of Business. Polly worked at Burgess Pigment Company for 38 years, retiring as Corporate Secretary and Treasurer. Mrs. Tompkins was a life-long member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church, serving as Trust Officer of the Sandersville First United Methodist Church Foundation and member of the Administrative Board and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. She was a charter member of the Pilot Club of Washington County – annually coordinating the Pilot Club Senior Walk, holding a club record 21-year perfect attendance streak, and being named a 4-time recipient of the “Pilot Club Sweetheart of the Year.” Polly was a proud supporter of Sandersville and Washington County, formerly a representative on the Board of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Tompkins was fondly known throughout the community for her daily 5:30 a.m. 3-mile walk with her husband on the streets of Sandersville. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Tompkins, Sr., and her siblings, Virginia Holton Blackburn, Bernice Holton Gwinn, Cebron Holton, Vera Holton Grant, Billy Holton, Betty Holton Riggs, Bobby Holton, Missie Holton McGahee, and Laverne Holton Kinard.

Survivors include her son, Wendell Tompkins, Jr., of Statesboro and numerous nieces and nephews.
