Financial assistance on home energy bills is currently available for low-income Georgians.

On Monday, the Georgia Department of Human Services opened the application period for the 2024 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Individuals aged 65 and older or who are medically home-bound may now apply to receive helpful funds this winter.

All other applicable Georgians will be eligible to schedule appointments beginning Thursday, January 2.

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is designed to assist both homeowners and renters with their heating bills. Direct payments are made to the home’s energy supplier.

Funding is administered through local Community Action Agencies (CAA). It is available on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted.

To qualify, a family’s income must be less than or equal to 60 percent of the median income for a Georgia family.

For a one-person household, the income threshold is $33,000.

For a household of five, the income threshold is $73,700.

Georgians must contact their local Community Action Agency to apply for financial assistance on their winter heating bills.
