
Mrs. Peggy Dutton, age 88, of Sandersville passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the Heritage Inn Nursing Home. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, January 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in her family farm on Freetown Road of Sandersville. Mr. Clint Hancock will officiate. Pallbearers will be Lane Hancock, Chance Hancock, Cody Hancock, Rhett Hancock, Tucker Hancock, Michael Selby, and Charlie Hancock. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dutton was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the daughter of the late Jeardy Wilson and the late Mamie Garner Wilson. She held various occupations throughout her working career, retiring as an Office Assistant for Jet Food Stores. Peggy was known in her community as an avid player of the lottery, especially scratch-offs. Mrs. Dutton also enjoyed to fish and play bingo. She made a “mean sandwich” and delicious dumplings. Peggy was regarded as a sassy and independent woman. Beloved by her family, Mrs. Dutton assisted in raising many of her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Dutton.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Dutton Hancock and husband Chuck of Sandersville; grandchildren, Justin Hancock and wife Miriam, Lance Hancock and wife Jenna, Cindy Selby, Rocky Lewis, Clint Hancock and wife Tammy, and Cliff Hancock; great-grandchildren, Cody Hancock, Rhett Hancock, Lane Hancock, Camryn Hancock, Lauren Deberry and husband John, Michael R. Selby and wife Jill, Caylee Wright and husband Cody, Jordan Graham and husband Seth, Chance Hancock, Charlie Hancock, and Tucker Hancock; great-great-grandchildren, Rowen Deberry and Jules Selby; and special friend and caretaker, Michelle Poole.
