Elder Floyd Walker, age 74, of Tennille passed away on Sunday, April 13, in Macon. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, April 21 at 12:00 p.m. in the New Birth Christian Ministries of Tennille. Interment will follow in the Walker Family Cemetery.
Mr. Walker was born on September 22, 1950, the son of the late Prince Walker, Sr. and the late Lonnie Mae Walker. He received his formal education in the Washington County Public Schools, graduating from T.J. Elder Comprehensive High School in 1969. Floyd was a longtime employee of Engelhard (BASF) and retired as a Maintenance Equipment Operator with the Georgia Department of Transportation. Mr. Walker accepted Christ into his heart at an early age and was a faithful member of Dixon Grove Church of God in Christ of Tennille. He was ordained as a Deacon in 2011, preaching his trial sermon the following year, and graduated from the Charles G. Mason Theological Institute in 2023 – then ordained as an Elder. Floyd possessed a passion for gospel music and served as the lead singer of the renowned group, “The Gospel Explorers,” famously known for the song “Have You Heard the News.” Mr. Walker enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, attending church, and staying up to date with the latest sports news as a devoted fan of LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Walker; sister, Lillie P. Lockett; son, Derek R. Walker; and grandson, Vincent Duggan Jr.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Jacquelyn S. Walker; sons: Frederick Walker, Sr.and wife Nekia of Tennille and Rodney Walker and wife Sheila of Tennille; grandchildren: Kanesha Walker, Sharonda Walker, Felexia Walker, Rodney Walker, Jr., James Walker, Faithia Walker, Frederick Walker, Jr., Shakara Walker, Takara Walker, Brandon Walker, and Ramoni Walker; great-grandchildren: Kaiden Walker and Khristian Walker; sister, Eveline Darrisaw and husband Willie; brother, Prince Walker, Jr. and wife Daisy; uncle, Jerry Omar; brothers-in-laws: Ronald Raye and Huttie Swint, Jr. and wife Mary; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
