
Numerous roads throughout Washington County remain closed following the heavy rainfall brought by Hurricane Sally last week.
Crews are working diligently to make repairs in order to reopen these roads.
On Highway 24 East, two pipes failed around Mile Post 8 at Prosser Road. The roadway is closed until further notice. Detours are in place.
Jordan Mill Road is shut down to thru-traffic due to rain damage to the work that was recently performed.
On West Haynes Street in Sandersville a section between Ridgeland Drive and Willow Drive is closed to all traffic until repairs can be made.
The following roads in the County are closed:
- Peacock Springs from 2011 Peacock Springs to Tennille Oconee Road
- The entire area of Deerhunter Road.
- Lamar’s Creek Road from 75 Lamar’s Creek Road to 1151 Lamar’s Creek Road.
- A portion of Freetown Road is closed due to holding water and potential caving
- Riddleville Mt. Moriah Road
- Irwin’s Road from Johnston Cochran to Old Savannah Road.
- McCoy Pong Road from Hwy. 24 to Heards Bridge Road due to a pond/swamp area overflowing and holding on the roadway.
- Henderson Grove Road from New Road to Hwy. 24 due to the swamp overflowing
- Kittrell Creek Road at 208 Kittrell Creek on each side of the creek, and from the creek to Hwy. 88.
- Jordan Mill Pond Road from South Sparta Davisboro Road to the bridge at the pond.
- Francis Bridge Road from Heards Bridge Road to Salter Road due to a pond overflowing.
- Duckroost Road from Tree Nursery Road to Chalker.
- Rachels Road from Deepstep Road to South Indian Trail Road
- Tree Nursery Road from Hwy. 88 to Jordan Mill Pond Road
- Chickasaw Road from Inman Branch to the top of the hill
- Francis Road at the middle creek between Harrison Davisboro Road and Francis Bridge Road.
Roads that are washed out/impassable due to holding, standing or moving water include:
- Betha Lane which is closed
- Middle Hill which is rough in areas, but passable
- Hilltop Road has debris on the roadway but is passable
- Bay Springs Road pond dam broke in this area
- Indian Hill Road from Old Savannah Road to Wommack Brantley Road is washed out and a portion of the road is gone.
- Channell Road is washed out eight to 10 feet at the pipe at the intersection of Old Savannah. It may be passable, but the public should use caution.
- Peach Farm Road
- Mathis Road has a spot on the east side of the creek that is washed out, but can be accessed from either end.
