A high-speed chase originating in Baldwin County made its way to Washington County Tuesday morning.

According to Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran, Baldwin County deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the morning of Tuesday, October 13. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop.

Sheriff Cochran stated that the driver, identified as Michael Stanques Norris, 30, of Tennille, led Baldwin County Deputies on a high-speed chase into Washington County.

“He started throwing items out of the window,” said Sheriff Cochran. “Some of those items included drugs and a firearm that was stolen. All of those items were recovered by law enforcement.”

Norris traveled down Deepstep Road and turned onto the Fall Line Freeway in Washington County.

According to Sheriff Cochran, Washington County Deputies located Norris on Sunhill-Harrison Road near Harrison after Baldwin County had called off the pursuit.

“This apprehension was made safely without incident or anyone being injured,” said Sheriff Cochran.

Michael Stanques Norris, 30, of Tennille is charged with felony fleeing to elude, felony drug possession with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a stolen firearm, and a string of traffic charges as a result of this incident.

Sheriff Cochran explained that other charges are possible as this investigation remains active by the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Norris is being held at the Baldwin County Jail.

Sheriff Cochran commended the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia State Patrol, the Sandersville Police Department, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, saying that it was a team effort to take Norris into custody without incident.
