City of Tennille residents in Districts Two and Three will vote in the November 3 Special Election for the vacant City Council seats.

As previously reported by WACO 100, Marlene Garrard Veal represented District 2, Post 1. Veal announced during the Monday, June 15 Tennille City Council meeting that she planned to resign from her Tennille City Council seat, effective July 1. Veal explained that her husband passed away unexpectedly on April 12 of this year; her resignation from Council would allow her to spend more time with her family.

Veal had served on Tennille City Council since 2014.

Earlier this year, Tennille Mayor Eartha Cummings announced that Councilperson Elaine Walk had submitted a letter of resignation to the City of Tennille. Councilperson Walk’s letter stated that because she moved out of the city limits of Tennille, she was no longer eligible to serve the citizens of Tennille.

Walk had served on Tennille City Council since 2014.

Qualifying for those two vacant City Council seats took place in July of this year.

In District Two, Post 1, two qualified: Rhonda Lemons and Sidney Swann. In District Three, two qualified: Deborah Rhodes and Bobby ‘Weston’ Williford.

The two individuals elected will fill the unexpired terms for the City Council seats.

Advance/Early voting is currently taking place Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the office located in the rear of the Tag Office at 117 Jones Street in Sandersville. Advance/Early voting will continue through Friday, October 30.

Polls will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
