Mr. Wesley Pittman, age 95, of Lakeside Drive in Milledgeville passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021. He will be buried beside his late wife Rubye in a committal service in the Davisboro Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating the lives of both Wesley and Rubye Pittman will be held on Saturday, February 20th at 2:00 P.M. at the Sandersville United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends following the memorial service in Heritage Hall of the Sandersville United Methodist Church.

Mr. Pittman was a native of Washington County, growing up near Oconee. He was a graduate of the Tennille High School. He served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. On his 19th birthday, June 6, 1944, Mr. Pittman was on a supply ship in the Mediterranean Sea. He also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, being honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Pittman was employed with Atlanta Gas Light Company for a number of years, serving as Superintendent of Operations and later opening a nursery business in Sandersville, as well as operating Pittman Builders, Inc. He built over 100 homes in Washington County where he and his wife Rubye were active members of the Sandersville United Methodist Church. Later he accepted the position of Director of Grounds at Central State Hospital and retired from there in 1990. To continue in his love of growing plants, he opened Pittman Nursery in Milledgeville, which served the area for over twenty years, offering customers quality plants and landscaping service.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Milledgeville, a member of the United Methodist Men, and chaired the Committee on Buildings and Grounds Committee. He was a past president of the Milledgeville African Violet Club and past president of Civitan International Club in Sandersville.

Mr. Pittman was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Rubye Cox Pittman who passed away on May 27, 2020, and his son, David Wesley Pittman, who passed away on December 12, 2018. He was also predeceased by his parents, Mr. Haywood W. Pittman, Sr. and Mrs. Mattie Bell Walters Pittman, his sister, Louise P. Mills and her husband, Reginald Mills, his sister, Ann Davis and her husband, Buddy Davis, a younger brother, Leonard Talmadge Pittman, his niece, Karen Pittman Prince, and his nephew, Stuart Pittman.

He is survived by his daughter and loving caregiver, Cynthia DelRey Pittman Cox; daughter-in-law, Debi Lastinger; son, Drew Thomas Pittman and his wife Anita Avant Pittman. ‘BaDad,’ as he was affectionally known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, is survived by grandsons, Bradley Pittman and his wife Krystal Jackson Pittman and John Wesley Pittman and Tommy Pittman; great-grandsons, Jackson Daniel Pittman and Paxton Luke Pittman; sister, Del Rey Pittman Humphreys of Atlanta; brother, Billy Pittman and his wife Freddie Lacy Pittman of Sandersville. As ‘Uncle Wesley,’ he is survived by his nieces, Lynda Davis, Reese Smith, Rena Gilmore, and Alice Tansil.

Donations can be made to Milledgeville United Methodist Church or any special cause of the donor’s choice. Individuals are also encouraged to grow flowers, plants, and trees to brighten a friend’s day in remembrance of Mr. Pittman.
