At their Thursday, February 11 meeting, Washington County Commissioners agreed to allow the realignment of Adams Road.
County Administrator Dustin Peebles explained to Commissioners that Thiele Kaolin Company was requesting the realignment.
“That’s where they do mining for kaolin,” said County Administrator Peebles.
Peebles explained that most of the parcels on Adams Road, located off Highway 272, are owned by Thiele Kaolin Company. He stated that a few of the parcels in the back, near the river, aren’t owned by Thiele.
“They’re requesting the County’s permission to realign the road as you come off Hwy. 272,” said Peebles.
During the meeting, County Administrator Peebles stated that Thiele Kaolin Company provided plans regarding the proposed realignment to the County’s engineer.
“Our engineer said the plans are fine, and they’re good to move forward from an engineering standpoint,” stated Peebles.
County Administrator Peebles explained that Thiele Kaolin Company has said they will leave the old road open during the realignment process; once that process is complete, the old road will be closed.
“There won’t be any interference for the folks that live in the back as far as getting in and out to their homes,” said County Administrator Peebles.
Chairman Horace Daniel remarked that this realignment won’t cost the County any money; Thiele Kaolin Company will cover the costs associated with the project.
Commissioner James Hitchcock moved to accept Thiele Kaolin Company’s proposal for the realignment of Adams Road; Commissioner Frank Simmons seconded, and the vote carried unanimously by the Commissioners present at the meeting.
