THOMAS L. CANTY

Mr. Thomas Lee Canty, Sr., affectionately known as “Big T,” departed this Earthly life on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at the Washington County Regional Medical Center in Sandersville. Graveside funeral services were held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at the Smith Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Marque Harden officiating.

Thomas was born on February 8, 1956, to the parentage of the late Mr. Zackie Canty, Sr. and the late Mrs. Ethel White Canty.  He was a 1974 graduate of the Washington County High School. Following graduation, “Big T” entered into the workforce and faithfully worked for C.T. Harris Trucking Company for many years. In retirement, he enjoyed riding around town and sitting on his front porch greeting passersby. Thomas was preceded in death by his siblings, Mrs. Lillie Pearl Hunter, Mrs. Lorene Washington, Mr. Willie Frank Jordan, and Mr. Zackie Canty, Jr.

Mr. Canty leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of nineteen years, Mrs. Arleen Canty, Tennille; five children, Mrs. Cencereitte (Tyrance) Jackson, Macon, Ms. Ashley Hurst, Tennille, Mr. Thomas Canty, Jr., Sandersville, Ms. Kamisha Washington, Tennille, and Mr. Antoinne Washington, Jonesboro; four sisters, Mrs. Mattie (Issac) Bivens, Harrison, Ms. Mattie O’Neal Taylor, Macon, Ms. Ethel Pearl Porch, Norman Park, and Ms. Ruth Gordon, Tennille; two brothers, Mr. Bobby Lee Youngblood, Atlanta and Mr. Bernard (Nancy) Gordon, Calhoun; five sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lorraine (Henry) Outler, Mrs. Dianne (Ray) Fragher, Ms. Myristine Colbert, Mrs. Willie Mae (Robert Lee) Roberts, and Ms. Ethel Canty; one brother-in-law, Mr. Tony (Marilyn) Washington; nine grandchildren, Shyheim Canty, Vernijah Canty, Harley Jackson, Jayden Thompson, Jamaiya Thompson, Ty’tiyanan Hill, Starlexia Washington, Kemarion Washington, and Jason Neal; devoted cousin, Mrs. Annie B. Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
