Sandersville’s Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the approval of zoning for a property on South Harris Street during their Monday, January 31 meeting.
Sandersville’s Community Development Director Dave Larson explained that this matter concerns a portion of the property located at 1207 South Harris Street in Sandersville. Larson stated that Jimmy Childre, Jr. owns the property.
“He owns the property from Childre Ford all the way to the Huddle House, and he will have it divided,” said Larson, explaining that the plan is to sell a portion of the property located beside Huddle House to another individual. “And they’ll put a business there.”
Larson went on to say that they have applied for the property to be annexed into the City of Sandersville; the property is currently not zoned.
“Since everything else on that street is zoned C-2, which is commercial, we propose that we keep it C-2,” said Larson.
No one was present to speak for or against the proposed zoning during the Planning and Zoning Commission’s public hearing on Monday, January 31.
“The staff recommendation is to approve the zoning as C-2 commercial,” said Larson.
When asked about the business locating next to Huddle House, Larson stated that because the plans were not finalized at the time, it was not appropriate to identify the proposed business.
“I think everyone will be happy with it, though,” said Larson.
At the conclusion of the public hearing, Planning and Zoning Commission member Rita Hunt moved to recommend the C-2 zoning designation; Planning and Zoning Commission member (and newly elected Chairman) Mike Wiggins seconded, and the vote carried unanimously by those present.
Sandersville Mayor and City Council will also conduct a public hearing regarding the proposed zoning at their Monday, February 7 meeting at 5 p.m.
