Washington County Commissioners will consider a new floor plan for the Washington County Recreation Department at their Thursday, March 10 meeting.
County Attorney Michael Howard explained that this floor plan is part of the Community Development Block Grant process.
“This is asking for approval on the new floor plan for the redesign and renovation at the Recreation Department,” explained County Attorney Howard, noting that this particular resolution to approve the floor plan does not approve any expenditures associated with the proposed project.
County Attorney Howard went on to say that the resolution to approve the floor plan is required because funding for the project would include grant monies.
Washington County Recreation Director Trey Binion addressed the Commissioners, explaining that the grant would include a new roof for the gymnasium, as well as new flooring for the gymnasium and lobby area, the installation of additional seating, the addition of AC and heat, new lighting in the gymnasium, windows for the front office area, and paint for the interior and exterior of the building.
“It’s a long list of things,” said Binion.
Washington County Commissioner James Hitchcock stated that the gymnasium is approximately 25 years old.
“All of these renovations need to be done,” said Commissioner Hitchcock. “I have met out there a couple of times, and everything on the list needs to be done.”
In addition to the floor plan, Commissioners will also discuss operating hours for the Washington County Road Department and present a service award to E.K. May.
Commissioners will also hear an update regarding fire departments in the county. Edwin Long is scheduled to speak about trash on New Tennille Road, as well.
The Washington County Commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 10 at 9 a.m.
