Mrs. Elizabeth Wiggins Knight, age 88, of Oconne departed this Earth to be with our Lord on Friday, July 22, 2022, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 7 at 3:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery . Mrs. Knight’s nephew, Reverend Eddie Wiggins, will officiate. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on the Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of the service at the May and Smith Funeral Home.

Elizabeth was a native of Washington County, born on June 6, 1934, to the late Speigel Edward Wiggins and the late Olive Veal Wiggins. She was a proud graduate of the Tennille High School, where she was regarded as a basketball star. Mrs. Knight was a member of the Liberty Chapel Church in Eatonton while living at Lake Sinclair before transferring membership to the Antioch Christian Church of Oconee. Elizabeth excelled at a wide range of diverse pursuits, ranging from learning to play the piano by ear at the age of 5 to volunteering as a firefighter with the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department. She loved serving as “Mema,” teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to fish and play water games at her home on Lake Sinclair, where she often cooked wonderful meals for her family. Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James R. Knight, in 2014.

Survivors include her daughters, Debi Toulson Wilson and husband Stan of Atlanta, Gail Toulson Lawler and husband Terry of Greensboro, and Jamie Knight Speice and husband Rob of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Matthew Wilson and wife Abby, Christopher Wilson and wife Merelise, Brian Lawler, Anna Kathryn Lawler, Nolan Speice and wife Kara, Kate Speice Little and husband Olen, and Dr. Christin Lawler Deal and husband Brian; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Marjorie Wiggins Perdue of Griffin, Edward Wiggins and wife Elaine of Washington County, and Aubrey Wiggins and wife Andrea of Washington County; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family wishes to express special gratitude to the caregivers of The Harbor at Harmony Crossing in Eatonton and the staff of Peaceful Purpose Hospice for their excellent service.
