Sandersville Planning & Zoning Approves Map Corrections

Sandersville Planning & Zoning Commissioner approved corrections to the City of Sandersville’s official zoning map at their Monday, March 26 meeting.

Building Official Dave Larson explained during the public hearing that three properties were colored incorrectly on the current zoning map. The colors on the map depict different type of zoning in the City of Sandersville.

“In order to correct those, we were required to have a public hearing,” said Building Official Larson.

Two of the properties are located on Washington Avenue in Sandersville. The properties are:

  • 318 Washington Ave.
  • 320 Washington Ave.

Building Official Larson stated that these two properties should be colored on the zoning map to reflect an R-2, single family residential district.

Larson explained that the current map shows the two properties on Washington Ave. as C-2 Commercial properties. There is no record of these two properties being rezoned Commercial. He stated that these two properties have always been taxed as residential.

The third property is the Huddle House located at 1221 S. Harris St. in Sandersville. Building Official Larson stated that this property should be colored as part of the unincorporated area of Washington County. The property on S. Harris St. has not been annexed into the City of Sandersville.

Mike Wiggins moved that the Planning & Zoning Commission approve the request; Rita Hunt seconded. The vote was unanimous by the Planning & Zoning Commission.

The Sandersville City Council will also hold a public hearing concerning this matter, and ultimately vote on this issue at their Monday, April 2 City Council meeting.

The Planning & Zoning Commission welcomed a new member Ben Salter.

“We’re glad to have Ben serving with us,” said Chairman Eddie Moye.

Salter fills the vacant seat previously held by Sam Smith.
