Mr. Charles E. Lee, age 68, of Sandersville, died Thursday, November 29, 2018.  A memorial service to celebrate Charles’s life will be held on Monday, December 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church of Sandersville.  Reverend Cecil Cook and Reverend Ray Austin will officiate.

Charles was born in Pike County, the son of the late Edgar Peterman “E.P.” Lee and the late Mary Langford Lee.  He was a graduate of Washington County High School and Georgia Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Industrial Management.  In 1973 Charles created the Sandersville Ace Hardware and Garden Center, a business in which he owned and operated for 34 years.  Following the sale of his business, Charles accepted the position as Executive Director of Economic Development for Washington County from which he retired in 2017.  He was a former member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville where he served as a deacon and numerous other leadership positions in the church.  Charles was currently an active member of First Christian Church of Sandersville where he served as a church elder and deacon as well as finance chairman among other leadership responsibilities.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Citizens Bank of the South and is a former member of the Sandersville Lions Club where he was a past president.  Charles has been active in his community formerly serving on the Washington County Hospital Authority, Past President of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, member the Washington County Development Authority and also Past President of the Retail Hardware Association.  In 2018, Charles was the recipient of the Washington County Citizen of the Year Award by the Sandersville Rotary Club honoring him for a lifetime of service to Washington County.  He was a great lover of the outdoors and volunteered time to the “Catch-A-Dream” foundation where he helped guide hunting experiences to youth with life threatening illness and disabilities.  His heart belonged to his savior. Family and friends and his memory will be cherished by an entire community.

Survivors include, his wife Jeanie Floyd Lee of Sandersville; sons, Adam Lee and his wife Ashley of Augusta, Jon Lee and his significant other Natalie Wiley of Tennille, and Miles Lee and his wife Allyson of Atlanta; grandson, Grady Lee of Augusta; and brothers-in-law, George Floyd and his wife Carole of Bainbridge and Schuyler Floyd and his wife Rhonda of Nashville, TN.

The family will be at the Lee residence on Walden Road in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
