Mr. George Marvin Johnson, age 80, of Tennille, died Monday, January 21, 2019.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25th at 11:00 a.m. in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille.  Reverend Paul Melton will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Nathan Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Dawson Hooks, Ethan Wilson, Wesley Unruh, and Royce Unruh.

Mr. Johnson was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Luther Hunter Johnson and the late Susie Kate Harrell Johnson.  He was a 1958 graduate of Tennille High School and served his country in the US Navy from 1959 to 1963 aboard the USS Interceptor stationed in San Francisco.   Mr. Johnson spent a 37 year career in the Kaolin Industry working for Georgia Kaolin, AICC, ECCI and retiring as a maintenance engineer with Imerys.   In retirement Mr. Johnson loved working on his farm, Little Acres, where he made cane syrup and worked in his scuppernong vineyard.   He was a master craftsman and had a passion for creating things out of wood or metal.  Mr. Johnson is predeceased by siblings, Lillie J. Brice and Cleo J. Naman.

Survivors are his wife, Gail Lee Johnson of Tennille; children, Wanda J. Durden of Tennille, Teresa J. Bridges and her husband John of Sandersville and Hunter Johnson of Oconee; step children, Travis Wilson of Wrightsville and Tracey Gay of Reidsville; grandchildren, Savannah C. Perkins and her husband Justin, Jessica Daniel, Michae Bridges, Dannielle Cowart, Leigh Anna Zaenglein and her husband John, Haley Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Ethan Wilson, Dawson Hooks and Ally Gay; nine great grandchildren; and siblings, Lamar Johnson and his wife Donna of California, Earl Johnson and his wife Dawn of Tennille and Dorothy J. Calamas of Appling.

The family will be at the Johnson residence on Hwy 68 South, Tennille and they will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
