HERBERT EUGENE “HUB” DENT

Mr. Herbert Eugene “Hub” Dent, age 81, of Sandersville, died Wednesday, May 20, 2020 following an extended illness.  A public funeral service will be held at the Hitchcock Barn on Old Savannah Road on Saturday, May 23rd at 11:00 a.m. following social distancing practices.  Reverends, Jason Loggins, Fred Morrison, and Burt Parker will officiate.  A family only committal service will be held in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville.   Serving in a honorary pallbearer group will be: Ray Moon, Billy Brown, Bill Garner, Ken Wright, Scott Bailey, Benjie English, Henry Armour, Walden Dudley, Frank Hatcher, Billy Smith, John Brooker Sr., Randy Mayberry, Jeff Merrith, Wayne Lawrence, Neal Pittman, Stacer Helton, Shea Helton, Chandler McDavid, and Bennie Bussell.

Mr. Dent was born and raised in Wilkinson County, the son of the late Rev. Frances E. Dent and the late Laura Wilson Dent.  After graduating high school, Hub moved to Washington County and began a 38 year career in the Kaolin Industry beginning with AICC and retiring as a mining supervisor for Imerys.  He was an active member of Sisters Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a member of the Silent Seekers Sunday School Class.  Hub possessed a lifelong love of building and used his talent in many areas throughout Washington County mostly for the benefit of others.  He loved being in the outdoors and hunting.  Some of his greatest joys came from mentoring youth through hunting, fishing and sporting events.  He was a longtime volunteer at Brentwood School.  He made a lasting impact on numerous people and his memory will be cherished by many.  In addition to his parents, Hub is predeceased by two children, Leslie Dent and Tammy Dent French and siblings, Benjamin Dent, John Dent, Julian Dent, Fred Dent, Billy Dent and Ann Dent Moon.

Survivors include his loving wife, Annette Savage Dent; children Celeste Dent and Brian Dent and his wife Rhonda; grandchildren, Brooke Hitchcock and her husband James, Brianna Dent, Bridget Dent; and great grandchildren, Moriah, J.W. and Samuel Hitchcock.

The family will be at the Dent residence on Mayview Road.
