With the fall season to begin later this month, it’s time to spruce up the yard and get those seasonal decorations ready for the City of Tennille’s Yard of the Quarter competition.

Residents of the City of Tennille will have a chance to be recognized for a beautiful yard with the City of Tennille’s yard of the quarter contest. This quarter’s theme is fall colors or fall sports.

This program is designed to recognize the hard work and pride exhibited by Tennille residents who beautify their yards.

According to Tennille Mayor Eartha Cummings, the beautification program was established to recognize Tennille City residents who have improved or maintained their yard and whose yard has a positive aesthetic appeal.

“This award is intended to inspire others to take pride in their yard, and to improve the overall quality of life in Tennille,” said Mayor Cummings.

Judging for the fall yard of the quarter contest will begin Monday, September 19. The winner will be announced during the October 5 Tennille City Council meeting.

Judges will use the following criteria when selecting the exemplary yards:

  • Yard is well-groomed and maintained
  • Tasteful landscaping – yard is attractive and pleasing to the eye
  • Buildings, fences, porches, and patios on the property are in good repair
  • Yard is free of litter, junk and debris – no appliances or indoor furniture on the porches or patios
  • Yard is free of junk or inoperable vehicles, and there are no vehicles parked on the grass areas
  • House numbers are displayed attractively
  • Only the portion of the yard viewed from the street will be judged
  • Good use of seasonal color
  • Creativity and originality
  • Overall appearance is pleasing

The Yard of the Quarter winners from each district will be featured in the City of Tennille’s newsletter and with local media.
