Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced on Tuesday, March 23 that all adults in Georgia over the age of 16 will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine beginning Thursday, March 25.

“We continue to make significant progress in vaccinating Georgia’s most vulnerable population; that is our seniors,” said Governor Brian Kemp during the March 23 press conference, noting that as of Tuesday, 1,040,000 seniors have received at least one dose of the vaccine, or 74 percent of Georgia’s seniors.

Governor Kemp continued by saying that because Georgia’s vaccine supply has increased, the decision was made to open the eligibility to all adult Georgians over the age of 16.

“This is our ticket back to normal,” said Kemp during the press conference. “We’re getting closer to that point every single day.”

As previously reported by WACO 100, a state operated mass vaccination site opened in Washington County on Wednesday, March 17. The mass vaccination site is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Word of Life Church, located at 1214 South Harris Street in Sandersville; this site offers the Pfizer vaccine. With the Georgia Department of Public Health’s North Central Health District, eligible individuals can schedule appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through public health by calling 478-749-0179 or 1-844-987-0099.  Do not call the local health department for an appointment. Scheduling at the North Central Health District is for Georgian’s 18 years of age and older. The 13-site health district can only vaccinate age 18 and older due to the district’s use of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Appointments are based on vaccine supply.
