Daniel Payton Brinson of Harrison Arrested and Charged with Malice Murder

A Washington County man was arrested on Wednesday, May 5 in connection with last month’s double homicide in Johnson County.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Daniel Payton Brinson, 22, of Harrison was arrested on Wednesday, May 5 for two counts of malice murder.  Brinson’s charges stem from the April murders of Destiney Hope Kight, 18, of Wrightsville, and Charles Jaylon Garrett, 18, of East Dublin.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an address on Paul Lord Road in Wrightsville on Friday, April 23 in reference to two deceased persons. Deputies discovered both Kight and Garrett deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

The investigation revealed that 22-year-old Brinson was a known associate of Garrett.

Brinson was arrested on Monday, April 26 by the Marietta Police Department for unrelated charges. He is currently booked in the Cobb County Jail.

According to the GBI, this investigation remains active and ongoing.

The agencies that assisted in this investigation include the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Wrightsville Police Department, Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Community Supervision Dublin Office.
