Sandersville City Council voted to amend the Downtown Development Authority’s (DDA) bylaws and the DDA boundary map at their Monday, August 2 City Council meeting.

City Administrator Judy McCorkle explained that the bylaws and the boundary map were approved initially by the Downtown Development Authority, and then forwarded to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for consideration. Most recently, the DCA approved both the proposed bylaws and the revised boundary map.

Some of the proposed changes in the DDA’s bylaws include: an established process of nominating directors, a description of the role and duties of officers, the establishment of the DDA meeting procedures, the identification of the annual meeting schedule for the DDA, and addressing the concept of associate members of the DDA.

In addition to the bylaws, the Downtown Development Authority’s boundary map was also approved. The DDA proposed increasing the boundaries for the DDA District in order to reach more local businesses. The DDA’s new boundaries include extensions along North Harris Street to the former Sandersville Elementary School, and continuing along Highway 15 North to the Fall Line. Also, the DDA district will extend eastward along East McCarty Street towards North Hospital Road. The boundaries extend south towards Quality Inn and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, and west along West Church Street to the Washington County Farm Bureau.

After reviewing the proposed changes to the DDA bylaws and the proposed boundary map, the Sandersville City Council unanimously voted to adopt a resolution to amend these documents. The resolution notes that the City Administrator and the City’s Economic Development Director have reviewed the proposed bylaw changes and boundaries with the Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority, and recommend their approval by the Mayor and City Council.
