Reverend Robert Owens, Sr. entered into eternal rest on the morning of Monday, September 27, 2021, at the Washington County Regional Center in Sandersville. Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Pine Grove AME Church on 588 Donovan Road in Wrightsville. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Reverend Owens was born on July 29, 1935 in Donovan, Georgia to parentage of Mrs. Julia Mae Owens and Mr. William Tarver, Sr. At an early age, he joined the Scott Chapel Baptist Church in Pringle, Georgia. Later in life, Reverend Robert Owens, Sr. began his ministering to the world. In the late 1970’s, Robert pastored many churches in many different counties. At the time of his death, he was the Pastor of the Bold Spring Baptist Church in Sandersville, where he served for 42 yeas, and Lane Grove Baptist Church in Millen, where he served for 29 years. He also pastored the New Baptist Church of Sandersville for over 10 years. Reverend Owens was the present Moderator of the Hancock Missionary Baptist Association of Sparta, where he faithfully worked for over 7 years, after serving as Vice Moderator for 20 years. Revend Robert Owens, Sr. was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Julia Mae Owens; stepfather, Mr. George Owens; father, Mr. William Tarver, Sr.; and brother. Mr. William Tarver, Jr. He was the faithful husband to the former Doretha Sampson Owens for 39 years.

Reverend Robert Owens leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Bobby Owens of Weeki Wachee, Florida, Robert (Wykeshia) Owens, Jr. of Tennille, James (Joanne) Owens of Sandersville, Lorianne (Marion) Swint of Tennille, Johnny (Sadiah) Owens of Warner Robins, Quinton Owens of Byron, Michael (Shirley) Owens of Savannah, Sheryl Owen of Tennille, Ellen Owens of Tennille, and Eric (Michelle) Owens of Waco, Texas; one devoted brother, Reverend Roger Owens of Brunswick; devoted friends Elizabeth Stephen and Darryl Stephens; 34 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, September 30 from 12:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the L.M. Pierce Funeral Home. Family visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

The following of Centers for Disease Control guidelines for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19, including the wearing of face masks and practicing of social distancing, will be required.
