Santa Claus is coming to Sandersville during this year’s Christmas on the Square scheduled for Thursday, December 2.

Sandersville’s downtown merchants are open throughout the day, and will have their stores open during the evening’s festivities which are scheduled to kick-off around 5 p.m. continuing until 8 p.m., encouraging people to “Shop Local,” and to enjoy a longstanding tradition in Washington County. In addition, this event will feature a holiday market.

While enjoying the City of Sandersville’s Christmas decorations around downtown, a horse and carriage will take patrons around town for an evening ride. The horse and carriage rides are sponsored each year by the Sandersville Downtown Development Authority.

When the sun begins to set, those in attendance will enjoy the annual lighting of the Pilot Club Lite-a-Lite tree; this is scheduled to take place at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Thursday evening. The lights on the Pilot Club’s tree are sponsored by community members who purchase the glowing decorations, either in memory or in honor, of those near and dear to their hearts. The complete list of names will be featured on a board at the Christmas on the Square event, as well as in this week’s edition of The Georgian newspaper.

The sounds of Christmas will fill the downtown area with live performances throughout the evening in the Paul F. Thiele Park located at the corner of East Haynes Street and North Harris Street.

Santa Claus will be located in the Gazebo to discuss Christmas wish lists and to pose for photographs.

The Sandersville Christmas on the Square event is presented by the Sandersville Downtown Development Authority, Sandersville Main Street, and the Pilot Club of Washington County.
