Washington County Commissioners unanimously approved a beer and wine license for Lewis Lake Restaurant at their Thursday, December 9 meeting.

It was explained during the meeting that that previous owner and operator of the restaurant, Jerry Chance, passed away in February of this year.

County Administrator Dustin Peebles explained that when businesses/restaurants have new owners/operators, they must go through the application process for beer and wine licensing.

The County advertised this request, and the new owner/operator underwent the necessary background screening.

“And they’re good to go,” said County Administrator Peebles.

Commissioner Doug Watkins moved to approve the application; Commissioner Edward Burten seconded, and the vote carried unanimously.

In addition to the beer and wine license, Commissioners also approved the Community Development Block Grant language access plan.

County Administrator Peebles stated that this is a federal requirement that is required when administering Community Development Block Grants.

“A lot of those funds come from federal programs,” said County Administrator Peebles.

The language access plan requires the County to provide any documents pertaining to the grant in various languages.

“We have it, so if someone wants to see it, and they don’t speak English, we can provide them with the website to have the documents translated into the language they need,” said County Administrator Peebles.

Commissioner Doug Watkins moved to approve the language access plan; Commissioner Frank Simmons seconded, and the vote carried unanimously during the December 9 meeting.
