S.D. JAMES

Mr. Sam D. James, Jr., affectionately known as “S.D,” departed this Earthly life on Friday, December 24, 2021, in Atlanta. Graveside funeral services were held on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at 12:00 P.M. in the Woodlawn Cemetery with Reverend Daniel James officiating.

Mr. James was born on May 13, 1949, to the parentage of the late Mr. S.D. James, Sr. and the late Ms. Annie Mae Lamar. S.D. joined the St. Galilee Baptist Church of the Tybee Community at an early age and later transferred his membership to the Victory Baptist Church in East Point. Mr. James attended the T. J. Elder High School. Following high school, he relocated to East Point. On July 12, 1971, S.D. married Ms. Carolyn Francis. They raised two sons, Jerald and Michael. He was employed by the Fulton County School System for many years and retired from the Brookview Elementary School in 2012. Mr. James enjoyed spending time with his one grandchild and three great-grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan, very passionate about the World Series Champion Atlanta Braves.

Mr. James leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mrs. Carolyn James, Atlanta; two sons, Mr. Jerald Francis, Atlanta and Mr. Michael Francis, Atlanta; two sisters, Mrs. Annie (Gary) McGill, Atlanta and Mrs. Carolyn (Benjamin) Renfroe, Milledgeville; two brothers, Reverend Daniel (Terri) James, Sandersville and Mr. Matthew (Bernice) James, Milledgeville; four sisters-in-law, Ms. Linda Strowbridge, Sandersville, Ms. Angelina James, Sandersville, Ms. Dorothy Thomas, Atlanta, and Ms. Lisa Miller, Atlanta; brother-in-law, Mr. Larry Francis, Sandersville; one granddaughter, Ms. Ashlie Francis, College Park; three great-grandchildren, Kyla Francis, College Park, Amyah Freeman, College Park, and Aiden Francis, College Park; and a host of other relatives and friends.
