Deacon Leroy Walden, Jr. of Wrightsville passed away on the morning of Sunday, January 16, 2022. Graveside funeral services were held on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. in the Sand Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Walden officiating.
Deacon Walden was born on January 22, 1960, in Wrightsville to the parentage of the late Deacon Leroy Walden, Sr. and the late Mrs. Sadie Wadley-Walden. He received his early education from the Dock Kemp Elementary School and was a 1978 graduate of Johnson County High School. Following school, Leroy worked in and around Johnson County until an illness forced retirement. At an early age, Brother Leroy joined Sand Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, on the trustee ministry, and was a faithful lifetime member. In addition, Leroy served as a custodian and worked with the food service ministry.
Deacon Walden leaves to cherish his memories, sister, Mrs. Bobbie (Hubert) Sanderson, Berlin, Connecticut; brothers, Mr. Mark Walden, East Dublin and Reverend Jerry (Katherine) Walden, Wrightsville; aunt, Ms. Lotis Pea Oliver, Wrightsville; nephews, Mr.Derrick (Annette) Sanderson, Windsor, Connecticut and Mr. Rodney (Willistine) Gilmore, Suwanee; niece, Mrs. Jerilyn (Jabren) Duggan, Augusta; and a host of beloved cousins, other relatives, and friends.
